Jody Douglass, SEM head of school, was elected president of the National Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) for 2016. The November 2015 vote by the board and membership was unanimous.
“It is an honor to serve as president of the board of trustees of the New York State Association of Independent Schools. NYSAIS serves more than 190 schools enrolling more than 80,000 students. Since 1947, the organization has helped to strengthen and support independent schools. By providing advocacy, professional development and outstanding evaluation and accreditation, NYSAIS promotes the best values and educational practices to serve the needs of its member schools.”
Ms. Douglass chaired the NYSAIS Accreditation Committee for both the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, NY (2011-12) and the Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City (2013-14).
In 2007, Jody Douglass became the 13th Head of School at Buffalo Seminary SEM. Her positions of leadership in education have included roles at some of the best schools both co-ed and for girls in New England. In June 2016 Ms. Douglass will retire from SEM.
