Assistant Head for Community Life

Job Summary:
The Assistant Head for Community Life (AHCL) provides overall strategic leadership, program development, and management of the Office of Student Life. The AHCL is responsible for all aspects of character education based upon SEM’s Honor Code, oversees community service, clubs, and student activities. In addition, the AHCL works with the Residential Director to insure the safety and supervision of students in the evenings and on weekends, and to help plan weekend programming. The goal is to provide a safe, supportive and structured, yet responsive home like environment for students. The AHCL reports directly to the Head of School, serves on the Core Administrative Team and works closely with the Dean of Students to oversee the advising program. The AHCL also works closely with the guidance team and the School Nurse to provide support for individual students. He/she sets the tone for the school community and is responsible for the discipline of students.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee Advisor Program in coordination with Dean of Students.
• Support individual students and families with compassion and care.
• Work with residential personnel and faculty to provide a supportive, structured home like environment for students.
• Work with the Assistant Head for Academic Life to support faculty in their work with students.
• Plan and provide clear communications about the student life calendar, supervision duties and activities to all constituencies.
• Work to implement safety and crisis protocol, ensuring all policies of the school are adhered to.
• Support student health and wellness by working closely with the Nurse, Athletic Director and Health Teacher.
• Supervise the Residential Director and the Community Service Director.
No job description can anticipate all responsibilities. There may be other assigned duties. The AHCL should have a deep appreciation for working with teenage girls and have the ability to lead a vibrant, engaging and forward-thinking student life program. The candidate must possess a warm and approachable personality while being firm, consistent, predictable and fair.
