On July 1, 2016 Helen Ladds Marlette began her tenure as Buffalo Seminary's 14th Head of School. In February, the board of trustees voted unanimously on her appointment.

Helen was until today Assistant Head of School. She has held a number of leadership positions at SEM since joining the school in 2007. Her career in education spans more than three decades in independent secondary schools.

"It is with great excitement that I begin my tenure as the Head of Buffalo Seminary. I am grateful for the work of all who have preceded me and particularly that of Jody Douglass who leaves the school in a position of strength," she said. Former Head of School Jody Douglass retired yesterday, June 30, after nine momentous years including a capital campaign that surpassed its goal and closed yesterday.

"Our enrollment is at capacity, our building projects and campus preservation efforts are nearing completion and the school is on solid financial ground. This combination of factors allows me the opportunity to focus on our faculty and the extraordinary work they do on a daily basis in our classrooms, hallways, theater, athletic facilities and residences. Our students are challenged academically and feel connected to their teachers, advisors, and coaches. These relationships have and will continue to be what distinguishes a SEM education."

Helen and her husband, Peter, have three children: Grace, Peter and Liza '13.
