WBFO education reporter Eileen Buckley interviews Head of School Jody Douglass as she prepares to retire at the end of June.
Ms. Douglass began her tenure at SEM in 2007. Under her leadership a residential program was begun that now comprises four historic homes adjacent to the school building for students from around the world and nation; Buffalo Seminary was added to the National Register of Historic Places; 1:1 laptop program and accompanying STEAM curriculum was established; enrollment has surpassed 200 for a number of years; the endowment has doubled; the largest capital campaign, Remarkable Opportunities, in SEM's history was undertaken. The goal of $8.5 million has nearly been met as of today. Remarkable Opportunities will close with Ms. Douglass' retirement on June 30.
June 4, Party on the Parkway celebrates Ms. Douglass with over 300 people expected to attend the festivities under tents erected on Bidwell Parkway. The party also features a groundbreaking for the Magavern-Sutton Courtyard which will join the residential houses with the school building to create a unique urban campus in the heart of Elmwood Village; and a ribbon cutting on the school building to acknowledge campaign donors who have supported the historic building's preservation.
The students presented Ms. Douglass with a bicycle at an annual awards day on June 3.
